U10s walk on with Midlands Hurricanes

On Sunday (19th Feb), the Vs U10s were given the proud honour of walking on with the Midlands Hurricanes players, and subsequently being pitchside as the ball boys and girls, for their first match of the 2023 season in Rugby League’s Betfred League One. The match was played against Cornwall RLFC and was the Hurricanes’ first league match at their new home, the Alexander Stadium, which had hosted the Commonwealth Games last year.

Despite the Hurricanes obviously being keen to get the new season of to a winning start all the players and coaches interacted brilliantly with the children beforehand, getting some passing and kicking guidance in the process. The match was a great spectacle and the children got to see some of the physicality involved right up close! Ultimately after a really strong first half display the Hurricanes came out on top beating Cornwall 40-6, running in seven tries in the process. A thoroughly entertaining match.

As ever the U10s all behaved impeccably throughout the afternoon, respectfully observing the minutes silence on the pitch and performing their pitchside duties perfectly. They really did the club proud.

The U10s would like to thank all the staff and players at the Hurricanes who made us feel really welcome on the day. The Hurricanes’ next match is away at Hull Dockers in the Betfred Challenge Cup, but their next home match at the Alexander Stadium is against Rochdale Hornets on 19th March (3pm ko) and should be another great fixture.

As for the U10s, their next ‘day out’ will be at Leicester Tigers’ ground on 16th April. Having been confirmed as winners of the Barker Shield back in December, the team have been invited back to Welford Road to play against Wolverhampton U10s as part of a Celebration Day where competition winners play each other on the pitch before the Leicester Tigers take on Exeter Chiefs. This should be another fantastic experience for our group, and we hope to put on some entertaining rugby for the crowd on the day, played in the right spirit.

If you would like to come along to show your support, please do let us know as there will be at least one coach going across for the trip.
