U10s join Prima Tiger Celebration Day

As a result of the u10s winning the Barker Shield at Leicester Tigers’ Mattioli Woods stadium in December and becoming one of the Prima Tiger Champions for 2022-23 we were invited back last Sunday as part of the Prima Tiger Celebration Day.

This gave our boys the chance to play against the other Barker Shield Champions, Crusaders RFC who had travelled across from Norwich. With a considerable crowd in the stands and strong support from friends and family the Vs went toe-to-toe with a strong Crusaders team from the off. Despite going down to an early breakaway try a strong defensive display nullified some strong running from the Crusaders and soon with ball in hand the Vs showed the exceptional teamwork, running and skills that had got us to Celebration Day in the first place. Ultimately after a fierce but hugely entertaining contest the Vs ran out 5-3 winners with tries by Callum Nash, Harry Neachall, Edward Cross, and Will Stokes (2).

Following the match, the team was presented with winner’s medals and were subsequently invited onto the pitch at the half-time interval of the Tigers’ match against Exeter Chiefs that followed. Alfie Bennett led the team out to be presented with the trophy in front of 20,000 people – a fantastic experience for our u10s and one where they represented the club with honour.

The Vs were then treated to an entertaining Gallagher Premiership match where Tigers ran out comfortable winners with Chris Ashton breaking 100 tries in the process.
