Satur-Vs Match Report

On a frosty morning the Satur-Vs were delighted when the pitches thawed and play was on with Cannock as the visitors. Unfortunately their under 8s and under 11s couldn’t make it but the Sunday Under 11s side stepped in to offer our side some opposition (and a brilliant game was enjoyed by all with some debuts and first ever tries making it a rich and rewarding match!) whilst our under 8s had enough numbers to have some fun games amongst themselves.

It was therefore left to a joint under9/10 side of ours to face a joint side from the Lions. We had 5 players making their first start at this level but it didn’t show as Veseyans quickly scored several tries with some slick passing and footwork. In the second and third quarters we progressed further with our best rucking of the season seeing us get to the breakdowns quickly to support our ball carrier and passing out rapidly to the next runner. A few high tackles at the end showed we need to work on height and holding on but fatigue was a key in a bruising but enjoyable game.

We look forward to the return fixture and also the side looks forward to splitting next week as we welcome Burntwood Under 10s, 9s and 8s on a busy and important day for the club as the old boys dinner follows our Saturday morning fixtures before the 1st XV and 2nd XV both have games at home too. I hope as many of you as possible and come down for the whole day at the club.
