Veseyans Rugby Club opened their season with a strong performance against Redditch Rugby Club in a match that featured new rules, including line-outs, conversion kicking, and playing on a full pitch. The game was held on a challenging, uphill field, but Veseyans adapted quickly and took control early on.
Veseyans' teamwork was evident throughout the match, with solid contributions from all areas of the field. The team started off with a series of well-executed tries, pulling ahead early. Jacob Williams stood out with four tries and consistent kicking, converting 6 out of 7 attempts in his first-ever experience with conversion kicking. Archie Horton added three tries, taking full advantage of his new role at number 8, showing great strength in picking up from the base of the scrum and delivering key tackles along with a try saving tackle.
Charlie Roberts led the team with confidence in his first game as captain, steering the squad with composure and excellent decision-making. Daniel Coates was a force at open side flanker, making important plays throughout the game and earning Player of the Match honors for his hard work in the breakdowns and open play. At scrum-half, Gethin Myers showed his defensive skills, earning the ‘Man of Steal’ title for several vital tackles that helped disrupt Redditch’s attacks.
Every player on the pitch played their part, and it was an all-around solid performance for the first game of the season. Redditch managed to break through for one try but couldn't match Veseyans' pace or defensive resilience. Special thanks go to Redditch Rugby Club for being excellent hosts and contributing to a competitive and enjoyable match.
