Veseyans U9’s travelled to an away fixture at Barton-under-Needwood on a great day for running rugby.
Barton showed the early initiative with some strong attacking runs and initially caught the V’s, who were a little slow to get going on the tackling front, off-guard.
Veseyans soon got into the game however and both sides delivered some good attacking play, keeping the ball alive with excellent handling skills and passing.
The fact that there were very few re-starts from touch, showed smart pay and improvements in our ability to cut infield at the right time.
Two or three very lively runners in the Barton side brought out some great defensive work and crunching tackles from the V’s, with Ellis Bessey, George Mutch and in particular William Eustace-Street making notable contributions.
Barton came out on top in both games played, however the scores were close at 6-4 and 8-6, with George Mutch, Harry Gwilliam, Archie Strachan, Alex Hume, Gurik Sidhu, William Bowen, Conor Cassidy, William Eustace-Street, Aiden Millard, Charlie Francis, Ollie Taroni and Luke Byrne all crossing for well worked tries.
It was great to see some new names on the score sheet this week.
Two excellent games, played in great spirit and enjoyed by both sets of players, coaches and spectators alike.
