The Veseyans U8’s put on a fine display of rugby at the Sutton festival fielding two squads on the day (the Panthers and the Zebra’s).
The Panther squad consisted of Ella Fellows, Harriet Guest, Sam Little, Ben Kay, Henry Plaister, Max Linford, Harry Baker and Benji Barrett whilst the Zebra’s were David Smith, James Dunn, Ben Larner, Daniel Field, Luke Jones, Levi Miller and Ben Mason
The Panthers played 4 matches and performed superbly, drawing 2 (Lichfield & Moseley), winning 1 (Camp Hill) and losing 1 (Bourneville). Tries were shared across the squad with Sam, Harry, Henry, Ben, Max & Ella all getting over the whitewash. The defensive effort was led by Benji & Harriet who were relentless in their desire to grab the opposition’s tags.
Zebra’s were in a tough group but held their own with a comprehensive win against Sutton, a draw with Camp Hill and narrow defeats to well drilled Worcester and Bournville teams. Top try scorers on the day were James and Ben L with 8 each but massive contributions were made both in attack and defence on the day by all members of the squad. Luke and David lead the defensive efforts but also both ran in tries after great inter-play within the team.
A final game against Moseley featured a blend of those players who had remained to the end of the festival with lots of free running Rugby despite the late hour.
Both squads showed great skills throughout the day, with a number of spectators commenting on how much the team’s passing, defence and overall teamwork had progressed during the season. Compliments were also received from other clubs on the manner in which all players conducted themselves throughout the day – a particularly pleasing aspect for all involved.
A big thank you to all the parents that came along to support the team. Another proud day for the V’s!
