A good performance from the Veseyans team saw them sadly beaten by an evenly matched Walsall side 27-12. The visitors got off to a good start after piling on the pressure in the Veseyans own 22 causing the Veseyans defense to finally break after 2 quick tap and go penalties on the five metre line saw them move the ball out wide and score in the corner. A solid scrum in the middle of the pitch set up the Veseyans first try of the match after a switch between Toby Page and Tom Rogers in the middle of the park saw Tom Rogers break through a couple of tackles and score under the posts after a 50 metre dash. Nearing the end of the first half Veseyans had a defensive scrum in their own half and a big push by Walsall meant the turned the ball over from the scrum. The walsall scrum half picked up the ball from the base of the scrum and beat the Veseyans winger to go over in the corner leaving the score at 7-10 to Walsall at half time.
Veseyans started the second half strongly and managed to keep the ball in Walsall’s half for the first 10 minutes and earned themselves a scrum about 25 metres out. Another good scrum meant that the Veseyans backs could try a nice move which left Noah Miller to crash it up in the middle of the park, after he was tackled scrum half Ollie Smith swiftly moved the ball to Toby Page who just managed to have enough speed to score in the corner for Veseyans second try. After going 12-10 down Walsall then woke up again and started putting the pressure on to Veseyans and got themselves a scrum 15 metres out, the ball was then played out to the Walsall backs who made the most of the overlap and the winger went in for Walsall’s third try.
After some strong defense in the middle of the pitch by Veseyans Walsall finally took their chance and the inside center burst through the middle of the Veseyans team shrugging off tackles to use his pace and score Walsall’s fourth under the posts. Walsall’s next and final try came when Veseyans’ kick off went straight to the Walsall outside center and he stormed straight through the Veseyans team and scored the final try of the match from about 60 metres out. Overall a good performance from Veseyans but a few silly mistakes during the game meant Walsall would take home the victory this time.
