On a bitter cold Sunday morning Veseyans U7’s welcomed Barton under Needwood RFC for our first home fixture of the season.
With the club full to the rafters, and the side-lines of the pitch packed with spectators prepared to brave the inclement conditions, the scene was set for a fantastic morning of rugby.
The U7’s squad certainly didn’t disappoint playing at a ferocious pace, and showcasing just how far their skill set had come since the beginning of September with some dazzling running, great teamwork in defence and sublime passing culminating in some excellent scores.
Ethan Taylor, set the tone in attack making some superb breaks in the line, whilst Adam Johnson was vocal in organising defence, leading from the front with some strong tackles.
It was pleasing to see so many of the Veseyans U7’s crossing the whitewash, two scorers that stood out on the day were Tobias Marklew and Jensen Berry who both scored excellent individual tries.
It goes without saying that the whole squad did themselves proud against a good opposition, who played the game in the same spirit that Veseyans Rugby embraces.
As coaches we are so very proud of the amazing kids we are working with, their commitment to Veseyans Rugby despite the cold conditions did not go unnoticed, and their progress so far this season is really pleasing that it only leaves us to feel that the future is bright for the team in black and white!
