Last Friday the Memorial Ground played host to its first ever Rugby match held under floodlights. The home started the match playing up the slope and took the lead, skipper Tony Hayes gambled by calling a scrum from a penalty in front of the posts and the backs did the job putting winger  Elliot Newell over in the corner, the referee deemed the challenge on him illegal and awarded a penalty try.

The visitors hit back with their forwards showing their strength and hit back with two tries, before winger Jack Clayton went over again and Nick Williams added a penalty to give the home side a half time lead. The home side started the second half the stronger with Scrum Half Jamie Davies breaking through and going over under the posts.

Again the visitors responded with two quick tries of their own, but the Veseyans team galvanised themselves and retook the initiative with tries from Andy Ryley and Jordan Reader to clinch the win. The Veseyans put out a very mixed team showing the potential of the club by giving some of the younger members of the squad a chance against a very strong physical side.

We thank the West Midlands Fire Service for providing the opposition for what was a massive night for Veseyans Rfc and their supporters.
