Stunning start to the season from the Veseyans 2nd team with a fine win over Aston Old Edwardians. Veseyans started the quicker of the two teams with young Full Back Jon Fellows getting on the end of a flowing team move to go over in the corner. Aston responded quickly and following two quickly taken penalties went in close to the posts for a converted try of their own to take the lead 7 – 5.

The V’s were only behind for a matter of moments as Jon Freeman burst through the defence for the first of his Three tries. After this there was only really one team in it, with the home team scoring at regular intervals, including two scores by Matt Dell on his return from injury, a hat trick also from centre Tom Greenwood including a brilliant score from  a kick through from Si Williams.

Other tries scored by Isaac Beechey who also added ten conversions, Ali Carless and James Thomas. Credit to Aston who despite being well beaten did not give up and kept going right to the end of the game. Special mentions to members of the Veseyans under 18’s setup Jack Ward, Isaac Beechey, Jon Fellows and Ollie Turley who all stepped up to the world of Senior rugby for this one and really made a mark. Next Fixture away at Harborne RFC 2nd team on Saturday 13th September.
