Veseyans 2nd XV 37, Sutton Coldfield 3rd XV 24 – Friendly Fixture.

Sutton bought a strong 3rd XV to the V’s for what turned out to be a vey entertaining game. The home side struck first with Wing Jack Clayton getting on the end of a Luke Forrest kick to finish smartly. Sutton hit straight back with a close range try from former V’s player James King. Jon Fellows went on a mazy run and stretched over the line under the posts to give the home side a 15 – 5 halftime lead.

Sutton flew out of the blocks at the start of the 2nd half and took the lead following two quick tries, the V’s however galvanised themselves and some great back play put centre Adam Tichen in for a score. From the ensuing kick off skipper Tony Hayes caught a clean ball , beating the un-rushing Sutton forwards, before releasing the back division, to again go blistering down the pitch with Clayton again finishing in the corner.

Sutton however would not give up and game straight down the other end of the pitch to reduce the deficit, with a fine score from their winger. The defining moment of the match the occurred, the V’s substitute back row player Tom Thornbury climbed highest to steal a Sutton line out, Jamie Davies and Adam Spinner got the backs moving with Centre Nick Williams going over in the corner.

Winger Clayton put the icing on the cake in the final minute with his hat-trick score. Nick Williams also added 3 kicks within the total. Special mention to debutants Rob Leslie and Tom Thornbury, playing as part of 8 colts within the side today.
