Midland Reserve League – Division 3, Veseyans 2nd XV – 31 : Moseley Oak RFC 2nd XV – 24
The away side started strongest in this encounter with an early try, but the Veseyans playing a very young side soon grew into the game, Veteran Wing Tony Hayes made a very smart break down the touchline and pulled the defence in, leaving a gap down the blind side which was exploited by young back rower Rob Leslie to sprint down the line and dive into the corner. The conversion was skilfully added by Ben Brown.
Moseley Oak came back at the home side and following an indiscretion at the breakdown pinned the V’s in the corner with a pin point penalty – their lineout functioned and the flyhalf scampered through a gap to score close to the posts.
The V’s though had the last say in the first half when a long defensive kick from Full Back Adam Titchen was chased down by wing Elliot Newell, from the ensuing ruck No.8 forward Courtney Cummings smashed through the defensive line to dot down next to the posts.
Moseley Oak’s half time team talk worked wonders and they came flying out of the blocks at the start of the second half to re-take the lead with a well organised team score. The V’s though did not let this discourage them and went back in front when centre Ben Brown chased through a kick from fly half Taylor Moore outstripping the defence to score next to the posts.
The home side further increased their lead when following a magical dummy at a ruck by Scrum Half Dan Hemming who was playing in his first senior game, left the defence for dead and he went in under the posts untouched from 50 metres out.
Moseley Oak though kept the game interesting with another score close to the posts, however the V’s managed to hold out and finish on top with a Ben Brown penalty and seal a seven point win.
