A young Veseyans side captained by Dan Hemming took on a older and more experienced Harbourne team in a Reserve League game at the Memorial Ground.
The early momentum was with the visitors who scored two unanswered tries. However, Veseyans were back into the game mid-way through the first half when, after a period of sustained pressure a four phase move was finished off by Will Cheneler on the right wing. Dan Hemming then added another try to bring the home team within 7 points at half time.
Sandwiched in between tries by the visitors, Josh Raby-Gordon smuggled the ball over the line from close range for his debut score before Lewis Gaffney ran in from 60 metres beating four defenders on his way for his first points for the club with a minute to go.
With the last play of the game Veseyans could have drawn level from the conversion but it was not to be. A good game to watch and on a different day a game that could have been won. The game also marked the senior debut for another of our colts, Owen Mead. Owen made some telling contributions and is another off the conveyor belt of the mini and junior section of the club.
