Veseyans started the stronger of the two sides making life very difficult for the home side in the opening 20 minutes playing with very good direction and conviction with just the execution letting them down in a game which could have been all over after 20 minutes. All Veseyans had to show for all their early dominance was a converted try from the unfortunate Ben Harris after some excellent work from the forwards in the tight.
After such a strong start Veseyans let the home side back into the game by kicking away possession and letting the Droitwich in for a long distance try. Droitwich kicked a penalty to take the lead 10 – 7 and then scored early in the second half to make the scores 17-7.

The Vs forwards got them straight back in the game with some excellent work in the scrum from Taylor and Wallis forcing the referee into awarding a penalty try which Ward again converted making it 17 – 14.

With the game very much all to play for the Vs dominated possession but still couldn’t turn it into points and with time running out Droitwich fly half kick and excellent drop goal leaving Vs needing a converted try with 3 minutes remaining to win the game. Unfortunately this was too much to ask and Veseyans were left disappointed and out of the cup in round 1.
The resut was more disappointing with injuries to Sullivan, Harris and Morgan who all left the field before the hour mark leaving the Veseyans with players playing out of position in all areas of the pitch with the most serious being to Harris who broke his foot and will be missing for a minimum of 8 weeks.
