Veseyans moved into the semi final of the North Midlands Shield with a tough win over Cleobury Mortimer.
Veseyans started the game brightly and took an early lead through full back Harry Griffiths after some punishing forward runs up the middle of the park.
This early score seemed to have an impact on both sides however with visitors livening up and the home side switching off for big periods of the game, phases of good play being followed up with periods of coasting. However, it was one of these clinical phases that led to Vs second score, as winger Joe Williams went clean through in half way and finished under the posts off first phase.
After half time Veseyans should of closed the game out – and looked well on their way to doing so with a well executed score from replacement fly half Ed Saunders. However, after this score the home side allowed the game to become very loose and played into the visitors hands. The home side looked to have the game win but Cleobury were not going to roll over. A couple of quick scores brought them right back into the game and it was tense to the final minutes with Cleobury needing a converted score to take it to extra time. Veseyans closed the game out with a try from scrum half Will Slattery going through after a quick tap.
A hit and miss performance but a good win nonetheless and the semi final awaits.
