Veseyans started 2017 with a home fixture to Leek.
The first half saw a very even affair with Veseyans dominating territory during the early exchanges and taking a 3-0 lead through a Tim Lloyd penalty. However, Veseyans were restricted from further points by giving away a number of penalties in the opposition 22 allowing Leek to clear their lines. From a series of penalties the visitors worked their way into the Veseyans 22 and scored the first try of the game from a strong driving maul.
Veseyans hit back with a try through Tim Lloyd, they continued to spurn opportunities and more penalties, gave Leek a kick at posts and the half time score was 8-8.
After the break the theme continued with Veseyans unable to stem the flow of penalties and Leek relying on their heavy forwards and efficient driving maul. The away side went on to convert 3 more scores through their drive and deserved the win through their efficiency.
Veseyans will be left frustrated by their penalty count and will rue missed opportunities that could of made the game a very different scenario.
