The U13s made the short trip to Walmley to face local rivals Sutton Coldfield, with the Vs looking to repeat the form that saw them comfortably beat Burton two weeks previously. Both teams started the game nervously with errors frequently breaking the game up in the first five minutes.

The Vs were on top and only an intercept allowed Sutton’s first score and brought them back into the game. The next ten minutes were back and forth between the two sides, but good hands from Oliver Collins and Oliver Smith sent Harry Taylor racing down the right flank leaving two defenders in his wake he dotted down to send Veseyans 2-1 up at the break. Sutton started the second half the stronger and forced an error of the kick off and strong running led them to the Vs 22, before another break resulted in a try between the sticks levelling up the scores to 2-2.

This reporter missed the resulting Sutton kick off but when he turned back to the action saw Jun Park racing down the field to put Veseyans back into the lead at 3-2. Park then added his second minutes later, this time popping up on the left a pass from Oliver Cattell left Jun open space and there was only one outcome as sprinted away from the defence. Veseyans began to take control and added a fifth as Joe Taroni scored a well deserved try after running hard all came, he brushed away two defenders before sprinting down the left touchline to score and make the scoreline 5-2.

Sutton surged back into the game through a try from there left wing and Sutton threatened a comeback. But two decisive moments from Oliver Collins settled the game for the Vs, firstly scoring from a show and go to dive over and then chasing down a certain Sutton score and make a try saving tackle. The final moments saw the best try of the game from Oliver Cattell, a dummy on half way led to a one on one with the fullback. Cattell did a stop and start leaving the fullback for dead to complete an excellent performance from the boys winning 7-3.
