Veseyans slip to surprise defeat off the back of a bonus point victory against
Shrewsbury in their previous game, Veseyans made the trip along the M6 to Stafford,
with their tails up, looking to push on up the table as the season comes to its close.

In harsh weather conditions early on, it was Vs who started the strongest, and this dominance
showed soon after the kickoff. Following a dominant scrum, which was to stay dominant all day, Vs
showed some well structured play to score through returning hooker, Cherry Bakewell.

However, this try had an adverse effect on the Vs team, and Stafford soon began to grow into the
match and test the visitors, and their improved performance was rewarded just before half time,
when a well weighted kick was gathered up and finished off by the home full-back. 5-5.

After the break Vs looked to once again stamp their authority on the match, and gain the win that
was expected. But, it wasn’t to be, not long into the first Vs found themselves 5 metres from their
own line, and they couldn’t hold out the Stafford fly half, who broke through the Vs defence to
sneak the ball over the line. After this, Vs began to knock on the Stafford door, but could not change
the imminent loss as poor execution plagued the Vs yet again.

Next week, Vs travel to Stourbridge Lions looking to avenge their loss in the return fixture and to
answer a few questions themselves after this week’s performance.
