With no league match Veseyans 2nd’s made the short trip to play the Spartans Stags side.

The home side made their experience count early on using their pack which had a very serious weight advantage for force their way over for two early tries in the game. The V’s moved the focus of attack away from the forwards and their backs very quickly came back into the game. Aston Uni Student Liam Sampson, Centre Sam Foster and Full Back Jon Fellow all crossed the line with Will Cope adding two conversions to keep the scores close at the half.

Veseyans took the lead at the beginning of the second period with Foster and Sampson adding further tries and Cope adding another conversion.

Unfortunately, this proved to be the end of the visitors scoring and with a steely performance in the last 10 minutes, the home side playing with the conditions down the hill added two scores of their own. Although in the end the match was decided by a controversial penalty try, which put a conversion under the posts as time ran out for the Spartans side to seal the game.

Great performance by a very youthful V’s side against a much more experienced and wily Spartans XV.
