Newport 3’s – 13 : Veseyans 2’s – 10.

Following the late cancellation of their league fixture, the V’s 2 heading into Shropshire for a hastily arranged game with the highly rated Newport 3rd Team.

Ali Carlesser stepped up to the plate in this one acting as Number 10 and had a very impressive start to the game instigating the move from a Scrum set piece that sent Centre Adam Titcheny over in the corner for the opening score.

The game remained very tight, following some pressure and a penalty decision close to the line, the Newport pack showed some dominance with one of the big forwards crashing over from close range leaving the score 5 all at half time.

Newport started the better in the 2nd half scoring a penalty goal and a missed tackle in the V’s back line let one of the Newport Centre’s go in from close range.

Credit to the V’s who really rallied in the last 20 minutes of the game with 2nd row Lewis Graham boshing his way over the line from a tap penalty.

Despite some last minute and last play heroics the V’s couldn’t get over the line for a third time so the match ended in defeat. Some great positives to take from the game, but also some things to work on in training.

Next Fixture, Yardley and District away on 27th September.
