Veseyans got their league campaign up and running with a 22-7 win over recently promoted side Newcastle under Lyme. After a couple of frustrating losses in the first two league games of the season, Veseyans made the most of a bye weekend in the cup and came to Newcastle fresh and ready.
A spectacle of running rugby was never likely as torrential rain persisted throughout the game. However, Veseyans put some good pieces of play together off the back of a dominant scrum and line out. Tries were scored by Harry Griffiths, Alex Morgan, Nash Maphosa and Will Slattery securing the bonus point win. V’s will feel they could’ve had a number of extra scores but the weather made like extremely difficult.
The 2nd XV enjoyed a good win against DK Wasps having lost to the same side a couple of weeks ago.
Two wins topped off a fantastic weekend for the club, with their annual Businessmans Luncheon on Friday being attended by 650 people, with guest speaker former All Black Sean Fitzpatrick. This was followed on Saturday night by the Late Summer Ball with 300 people in attendance.
