The Visitors were put under pressure by the home side early in this encounter, however, Malvern were unable to make it tell and an interception by centre Adam Titchen set forward Harry Haynes under the posts for the opening score of the game. Again the home side came back, but again coughed the ball up whist attacking and Wing Elliot Newell broke away, he was held up just short of the line, but Centre Titchen followed up to get the ball out via the pack to Skipper Tony Hayes, who sucked in the last defender and offloaded to Centre Rey Thorpe to dot down under the posts.
The home side then came right back into the game when following a concerted amount of pressure the pack forced their way over from close range for a converted try. Then came the decisive moment of the first half, the home side shipped the ball to the wing, where again they spilt the ball in the V’s 22, winger Newell, kicked through 3 times and used his pace to outstrip the defence, skilfully pick up a bouncing ball in the home side’s 22 to dot down over the line.
The home teams heads dropped at this stage and they gave away 2 penalties both in kickable positions which Scrum Hall Will Cope playing with a Broken Rib, was able to knock over the posts to make the score at the half 7 – 27 to the away side.
The second half was a much tighter affair, the home side galvanised themselves with some changes and the V’s were forced into changes in the pack, where Skipper Hayes was forced into emergency action at Hooker, undeterred, the V’s clinched the bonus point try when Newell went over for his second try in the corner.
The V’s stretched their lead with another Cope penalty, before again injury in the back row forced Veteran Coach Mike Dell into playing action for the final 20 minutes.
The Home side did not give up in the game though and made late pressure tell with 2 scores to finish the game on high, but these were purely academic scores as the V’s ran out 19 – 35 winners for their 5th consecutive league win.
