Veseyans again made the trip across the Black Country on Saturday to renew the early season rivalry with DK Wasps. Heavy rain welcomed the visitors but did not dampen their early spirit scoring four tries in the first 20 minutes of the game through debutant Ed Saunders, twice, Chris Cheney and Taylor Moore. The wide first team pitch at DK gave the Veseyans backs plenty of space to use the quick ball generated by the forwards. DK Wasps worked this out and managed to slow down play towards the end of the half, bursting over for their only try following a penalty for offside on the visitors five metre line.
The second half became a more fractured game with both teams working hard around the break down. DK suffered a number of injuries, including a nasty concussion to their fly half. The game was stopped whilst this was sorted and not re-started. We wish him well along with the winger who broke his collarbone. A well contested game, marred by a couple of nasty injuries. On a positive note we saw an impressive senior debut for Colts hooker, George Bains and another fine performance from another colt Josh Raby-Gordon. The junior section of club continue to provide us with talent to strengthen our senior sides.
Veseyans 2nd XV are back in league action on Saturday at home against Bournville.
