On a Baltic Sunday morning in November the Veseyan’s under 12 team traveled to the depths of Leicestershire to take on Coalville, in what would prove to be a the lads’ stand out performance of the season thus far.
Veseyan’s dominance started from the first period. Some strong running and ball carries from Luke followed by a scything run and smart offload from Henry W put Jack over in the corner. Coalville responded quickly to this score however, with their wing scoring a brilliant individual try. This was somewhat of a wake-up call and the lads’ responded accordingly with more strong running from Luke leading to a sniping blindside try to Lewis. This was quickly followed by a good turnover at the breakdown from David, shipping the ball out to Joe who battered his way through 3 opposition defenders to touch down for another score. Another strong turnover, and ball carry this time by Jordan led to another V’s try. The period was finished with a second try scored by Jack through such excellent phase play it left the two under 12 coaches wondering who had been secretly coaching the boys?!?
The second period began much the same as the first with strong tackles and great counter rucking from Jacob giving Henry W his second try of the contest. A tap penalty and a cheeky show and go from Lewis gave V’s their second score of the period. Coalville responded strongly to this with 2 quick scores from their talisman wing bringing the scores level for this period. This gave the boys an added drive to their game and straight from the kickoff Jordan caught the ball and powered his way through seemingly half of the opposition players to score! This drew the second period to a close.
The beginning of period 3 was almost a carbon copy of the ending of 2, the ball found its way to Jordan who through quick feet and powerful hand-offs found his way to the try line once again. Ferocious tackling from Henry T and Joe caused Coalville to knock on, which Veseyan’s pounced upon, putting Lewis in for his hat-trick score! Coalville would not however give up the fight easily! Another brace of tries from their fleet of foot winger followed by an impressive team try put the home side ahead for this period. The V’s boys would not let these scores dishearten them however, and further strong defence from Joe led to a Veseyan’s steal and another try for Jordan, ending the third period.
The fourth period was perhaps Veseyan’s most impressive of the match. A further 4 tries were scored by Henry W, Lewis, Jordan and Henry T, but it was Veseyan’s aggressive and relentless defence not allowing Coalville to score in this period that really impressed the coaches.
An excellent (if a little chilly) morning of rugby with the whole team doing themselves proud, putting the hard work they have put in during training to good use on the pitch. Well Done boys!!!
