The U8 Veseyans took a strong group out to a cold but crisp Coalville, superbly supported by a hardy travelling band of supporters.

Due to the high turn out two Vs teams were formed – The Casuals coached by Jimmy and the Challengers coached by James.

The Casuals played two evenly matched games against strong Coalville teams. Plenty of flowing rugby was played with the V’s scoring a large number of tries. Levi & Harry showed power and pace to score, whilst Sam, Max, Ben and Casey used their raw speed and jinking runs to bag tries for their team. Just as the team were fatiguing, Harriet arrived to shore up the defence and also deliver some great passes.

The Challengers team (ably supported by honorary V Ellis from Coalville) also ran in a significant number of tries in two closely contested games.  Billy and David showed an eagerness to carry the ball through the centre at speed, deploying the straight running that has been a feature of recent coaching sessions.

Ben L was deployed as a blitz defender closing down the opposition from the restart and harassing the ball carrier.

Ben Kay, Luke and Joe kept the team’s width, provided close support for the ball carriers and were fearsome in defence.  The team demonstrated the benefits of short crisp passes, committing defenders and moving the ball quickly to the wings.

The fixture finished with a massed bulldog of coaches vs players with clear evidence that the coaches need to practice what they preach and hold the defensive line!

Overall, an excellent all round performance from both teams with noticeable improvements from the start of the season.  Well done to all involved.  Up the Vs!
