Aston Old Edwardians 2nd XV – 0 : Veseyans 2nd XV – 40, Greater Birmingham RFU Merit League.

With a victory required to secure the GBRFU Merit League, the V’s made the short trip across to Aston Old Edwardians.
In warm but windy conditions the away side started strongest and some concerted pressure lead to Scrum Half Matt Gillick going over in the corner. After a second period of dominance close to the line Prop Reiss Taylor crashed over under the posts from close range, the defining moment of the first half then occurred, skipper Tony Hayes sensing there was a chance to put some clear daylight between the teams from kickable penalty, instructed Fly Half Adam Spinner to tap and go, the youngster spotted a gap to go through under the posts and he converted his try to make the score 0 – 19 at the half.
The second stanza started with the visitors still dominant, and following some great forward work, Pat Clarke romped through the opposing defence for a score. Further tries from Wing Jack Clayton and Spinner again put the icing on the victory cake.
Unfortunately the result was marred by injuries to Jake Haden-White and Matt Gillick, but after a long season – the League was won.
