A well deserved victory for the V’s in a local derby between two very committed teams. Veseyans Colts fielded a strengthened side made up of debutants Will Tickner and Sean Hamill and the return of Will Cheneler paved the way for some well earned league points.

The V’s showed some good structure and created a number of scoring opportunities but at times they over complicated the final phases. Much of the first half was spent in Aston’s half and eventually the pressure told with a well executed miss pass by Josh Raby-Gordon to put Nathan Homes over for the first try.

This was quickly followed by a burst down the middle just outside Aston’s 22 by Will Cheneler which led to the first of his two tries and the score was duly converted by Dan Hemming to complete the scoring and give the V’s a 12 – 0 lead at half time.

The 2nd half proved to be even more competitive with Aston putting the visitors under long periods pressure. Good defensive work kept Aston at bay and a breakaway try by Will Cheneler gave the V’s some breathing space. A number of V’s Colts came forward and put in some outstanding work namely Callum Chapman who tackled well and caused problems for Aston constantly. V’s final score again came form some good approach work and good handling to create an overlap that led to David Riley out pacing the covering defends to out pace them and score in the corner to complete the scoring.
