After last week’s loss to Church Stretton the Vese were determined to prove a point and attempt to cause an upset against a top of the league Burntwood, In a hard fought game Veseyans lost 20 – 0, although this score does not justify the way in which they played Veseyans threw everything at Burntwood in a fast paced, physical game which saw lots of commitment from the players after a poor turn out with only 14 Veseyans fielded (thanks must go to the Burntwood player for playing for the Vese as well as the lads from the university who came and played).

Burntwood scored early on which provoked an immediate positive reaction from the Vese in their defence as they stepped up and resisted the pressure which Burntwood were piling onto them. The strong Veseyans scrum was pushed by Burntwood for the whole game as the two teams competed for dominance in what was an even sided battle. Veseyans kept Burntwood restricted for the rest of the first half giving away very few penalties, one of which was converted making it 8-0 at the end of the first half.

Veseyans started the second half continuing as they left off defending strongly, after coming close to scoring after a long period camped in Burntwoods half the Vese were eventually broken down late into the game when Burntwood eventually broke the line of defence with good backs play which stretched the defence and eventually scoring in the corner making it 13 – 0. Then again with all but the last play Burntwood scored under the posts after they burst through the Veseyans line, they converted with practically the last play of the match concluding the match at 20 – 0.
