Veseyans Casuals entertained Walsall in their first home fixture under the lights at the Memorial Ground. The team was made up of Over 35’s, players that had not played for some time looking for a re-introduction to the game and colts looking at making their way into the world of adult rugby.

The Away side started strongly using a very effective pick and go game to cross the line near to the posts. Veseyans came back into the game towards the end of the first period, when fly half James Mason mad a half break to put centre Tony Hayes through a hole to beat two players and score in the corner.

The second period started the same as the first with Walsall again utilising the pick and roll game to score, again the home side hung in and following a fine set piece move, Mason and Hayes combined again in the centres this time to put Scrum Half Chris Cheney through the defence to score, converted by Hayes.

The final period of the match was keenly contested, and two late tries from Walsall made the scoreline look very harsh against the V’s.

Great game of rugby, very much enjoyed by all of those that took part.
