Veseyan‘s travelled to Stourbridge for this clash against the league leaders with a very strong match-day squad.
They started the strongest when Inside Centre Mark Edwards and Winger Tony Hayes broke away, with Edwards being held up over the line. They were not to be denied when from the ensuing 5 metre scrum, Outside Centre Liam Sampson crashed over under the posts. Converted by Scrum Half Will Cope.
The home side came storming back forcing the V’s to concede a 5 metre lineout from which they drove over from short range, unfortunately as well for the visitors Scrum Half Cope ended up at the bottom of the pile and had to be replaced.
The scoreline remained the same and the teams went in at the half level at seven a piece.
Veseyans, now playing with the wind forced Stourbridge straight on to the back foot to concede a penalty on the 22, which Edwards duly knocked over. A repeat of which happened not 60 seconds later, to give the V’s a six point lead.
Stourbridge again forced themselves back into the match and some smart play from their scrum half resulted in a try towards the corner which went unconverted.
Towards the end of the game, the home side mustered everything they could against the visitors, but some strong tackling by the Veseyans Pack lead by Veterans Nick Murch and Mike Dell with support from youngsters Josh Raby-Gordon and Tom Powell held them out, and when Skipper Tony Hayes coolly gathered a last gasp attempted chip over the top and ran into touch the game was won.
