Veseyans 2nd Team finished of the 2016 / 2017 with a fine away win at Local Rivals Aldridge.

The home side came flying out of the blocks and were soon ahead when their forward pack got a great shove on and scored an early push over try.

The V’s soon hit back, following a smart piece of line out work and back row Lewis Gaffney broke a couple of tackles to go over near the posts.

The away side extended their lead, when skipper Tony Hayes (playing hooker this week) took a cheeky tap penalty to catch the Aldridge defence napping and went over in the shadow of the posts.

Back came Aldridge into the game and again it was their dominant scrum that was their platform and they scored two more tries to go in at the half 17 – 14 up.

Aldridge extended their lead at the start of the second half with a penalty to go six points ahead, which turned out to be their final points of the game as the V’s then took control.

Another Hayes tap penalty and long pass to the wing put Gaffney in for his second score of the game.

V’s then lost Centre James Mason to a yellow card meaning that they had to play the final 10 minutes with 14 men, but this proved to spur them on.

Following yet another tap and go penalty the ball was run through the hands to young Winger Calum Chapman to go over in the corner, and the game was sealed when following another fine period of play Full Back Adam Titchen crossed the line.

All in all a fine end to the season for the V’s Second Team.
