Veseyans Rugby got back to winning ways in style on Saturday afternoon at the Memorial Ground. The visitors Shrewsbury came to the V’s looking to salvage their season after a good result against Stafford a couple of weeks ago.

The home side flew out of the blocks are were on the scoreboard early doors when a well executed driving maul put them over in the corner, from that point on Veseyans never looked back. They were accurate in every facet of play, with their set piece functioning well and their pack providing front foot ball at every opportunity, second rows Ben Harris and Adam Mitchell putting in huge displays.

Shrewsbury couldn’t live with the continuity Veseyans were able to create and first half braces from Joe Williams, Matt Dell and captain Rob Russell led to a half time score of 45-0. The visitors only threatening period came at the end of the first half where they were able to keep possession for a prolonged period in the Veseyans 22. The home sides aggressive defence kept the visitors out, but at the cost of a yellow card to Williams.

After the break, Veseyans got back to task, and held their shape and composure all the way to the whistle. Second half tries from Harry Griffiths, Ed Saunders, Adam Mitchell, Matt Gillick, Will Slattery were joined by a hat trick completing score for Dell and a second half ha trick from Williams took his tally to the afternoon To five, despite only being on the field for 70 minutes. 10 conversions for Griffiths took his tally for the afternoon to 25.

Veseyans Backs Coach, Dan White, was pleased with the teams all round performance. “We’ve known their performance has been in us all season, but for some reason we haven’t quite clicked all year. We could of done with it earlier in the season, but hopefully now the boys will be brimming with confidence and we can really attack the rest of the season.”
